We will all train alongside with Josh and get the opportunity to thank him for teaching the BJJ fundamentals class on Tuesdays.

Adult classes will continue as normal on Saturday, May 25. The last class will be at 11:00 AM for BJJ. We will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day. Also in June, we are pleased to announce a seminar workshop with international pro Muay Thai athlete Ognjen Topic. The seminar will take place Saturday, June 15 from 12pm-3pm at SCNY Training Center. This is a special seminar because Ognjen is considered a local fighter in the Muay Thai community before he was recognized as an international fighter. The event will be sponsored by Punch Gunk and they will provide free samples to all participants. It is highly recommended that everyone who trains in Muay Thai attend this event. He is ranked No. 1 in the USA and has titles with the WBC, WKA, IKF to name a few. He is currently signed to ONE Championship. Square Circle New York is located at 80 Nassau Street (between Fulton St. and John St.) in the lower level. Our door entrance is next to the UPS store. Our signs are above and directly on our entrance door. Call us at 212-964-9800 for more information. We are located in FiDi in the heart of lower Manhattan where every major train stops!

March 2019 – The Month in Review at Square Circle New York Training Center!

Mar. 27, 2019 – Spring is finally here! As we are preparing to leave March (and the winter weather) behind us, we wanted to take some time to reflect on what an action-packed month it has been. Additionally, the new season means new exciting things are happening at SCNY. Read on to find out!

First up, we want to congratulate our Kaiju Youth students for all of the hard work they have been putting into their training and it shows! Ranking exams took place during the first week of March, giving them the opportunity to show their instructors and their parents all of the new skills they have learned this past quarter. Congratulations to the youth students for their new ranks – keep up the good work!

Additionally, we wanted to welcome our new youth students joining us this quarter and we look forward to seeing you on the mat!

In other Youth program news, the new quarter means that there are new Character Building assignments for Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. In order to be eligible for the next testing cycle, students must have completed and handed in two assignments for both Muay Thai and BJJ classes. Please keep in mind that handing in all of the assignments does not guarantee an automatic rank up; good attendance, good behavior, and most of all, hard work are all taken into account during testing week!

Next up, we have some exciting news for our Monday night Circuit Training 7pm class. Starting this week, Christine Jones will take over as our new strength and conditioning instructor! Some of you may remember Christine from the time she worked on the front desk last year. Since then, she has gone on to become a personal trainer, certified through the American Council on Exercise. Her training style incorporates mobility and stability training with sports-specific speed, balance, and agility training. Space is limited to 6 people per class, and will take place in the weight room in the back. Members who are interested in taking the Circuit Training class with Christine are encouraged to book their spot in advance ! Please see the front desk for more info.

SCNY athlete Justin Taylor will participate in the upcoming Muay Thai interclub smoker at Chok Sabai, March 30th this coming Saturday. The event starts at 3pm and it is $10 for entrance. Chok Sabai is located at 30th Street and 5th Avenue. Come out and show your support!

We will have live demos/padwork in Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in both adult and youth settings. Each demo session will informally last around 15 minutes before transitioning into the next one. A few of our coaches will be in attendance at different points during the event training and holding pads for Muay Thai, or demonstrating basic guard positions or basic submissions for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Youth Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class will take place from 12:00pm – 12:30pm, and Youth Muay Thai class will take place from 1:00pm – 1:30pm.

Parents, please note: the classes will be more of a demonstration of the core values and light technical work because we have very limited space. If you plan on attending, please have your child show up with their appropriate uniforms. Both classes can end early or go over a few minutes. In addition, please have their change of clothes ready in case they need to change to regular casual street clothes.

We encourage all our students to contact us with times and availability that want to participate in the demos or volunteer to assist us at our table with basic Q&A from inquiring individuals or with the Prize Wheel. We are planning to have a 10’ x 10’ mat area in front of our booth to accommodate the demos.
